Harvey Cedars is located between North Beach and Loveladies on Long Beach Island. The unique name is said to have come from the abundant natural cedar trees which once occupied the area and from the locals knowing the area as, "Harvest Cedars". This name was later shortened to, "Harvey Cedars" which remains to this day. Harvey Cedars was the second township, after Surf City, to undergo a federal funded beach replenishment project which helped contribute to the area's success with Hurricane Sandy.
While Harvey Cedars fared well in Hurricane Sandy, there was damage to the area and the worries about flood insurance increases have not escaped the Harvey Cedars real estate market.
